Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather is f00kin’ awesome!!

Sunday and Monday night.. DP and I watched The Hogfather.. was absolutely amazing!.. loved it to smitherines!

I wanted to watch it initially ‘cos David Jason, better known for his antics in Only Fools & Horses and A Touch of Frost, was starring.. but we got more than we bargained for.. altho he wasn’t lead.. he didn’t need to be.. without him the film wouldnt have been what it was..

I can’t even put how much I liked the movie into words.. it was simply gobsmacking.. darkly humourous and incredibly entertaining.. I was kinda sad to see it end.. I coulda watched it forever.. there was one particular part of it that just made me think..’thassit!.. too right!‘.. I considered it the punchline of the story.. and that was the following, a conversation between Death and Susan:

“All right,” said Susan, “I’m not stupid. You’re saying humans need … fantasies to make life bearable.”

No. Humans need fantasy to be human. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape.

“Tooth fairies? Hogfathers?”

Yes. As practice. You have to start out learning to believe the little lies.

“So we can believe the big ones?”

Yes. Justice. Mercy. Duty. That sort of thing.

“They’re not the same at all!”

Take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder and sieve it through with the finest sieve and then show me one
atom of justice, one molecule of mercy. And yet you act as if there were some sort of rightness in the universe by which it
may be judged.

“Yes. But people have got to believe that or what’s the point”

My point exactly.

 Hogfather

..the cloaked moral lesson was presented so well.. and it was soooo cute when Death gave Susan a Hogswatch card..lol.. it still has me chuckling.. *smiles* .. you can learn alot from this film.. whether you’re adult or child.. I’m dying to get my hands on this.. hopefully it’ll be released on dvd.. i plan on grabbing some of Terry Pratchett‘s novels as well.. this is certainly something I wanna introduce lil wriggler to when he’s old enough ;)

..how on earth did I go this long without picking up one of his books?! :|
