…lil wriggler @ 20 weeks

Yesterday, DP and I made a trip to the hospital to see another view of lil wriggler.. and boy has he grown!.. he’s not the lil jelly bean we first caught a glimpse of back in November anymore.. he’s growing at a rapid rate now!

I was nervous about getting this scan done.. terrified of the thought that something might come up, as it is an anomaly scan.. meant to make sure all the organs had, in fact, developed as they should have.. but, so far so good.. everything is going well.. no anomalies were found :D

We were hoping to catch a glimpse of the sex of lil wriggler.. and DP thinks he saw something, what he described as 3 light-coloured blobs.. two of oval shape and another round.. the midwife had scanned over this particular area about 3 or 4 times before zooming in to check out the baby’s bladder, tummy, kidneys etc..

i figure it was to gauge the baby’s position.. which was high.. and hidden behind my belly button..lol :P

We got to see the spine and pelvis.. skull, cerebellum (which showed good signs of him not having downs syndrome) ‘n heart.. we were even shown the diaphragm.. the face.. eyes, nose and lips.. it was amazing.. *smiles*

mind you.. i couldn’t really make sense of some of the images.. as they were quite zoomed in.. and the midwife had to actually explain what we were looking at for me to click and finally recognise some sort of formation resembling what it was meant to be..lol

She even showed us the flow of the blood going through the chambers of the heart and through the brain.. and lil wriggler’s tummy filling up.. yet after seeing all this.. it’s still so very surreal.. I know he’s in there.. I know he’s making it known he’s there.. but to think I have another human being growing inside me is just completely gobsmacking.. hehe

We had to have a break to try and get lil wriggler to move into another position.. as stated earlier.. he was hiding behind my belly button.. laying transverse.. head at my left and legs at my right.. facing outwards.

The midwife couldn’t get a decent view of the heart with him laying like that.. so she sent us off for 10 minutes to see if he’d move.. well.. lil wriggler’s idea of moving was turning his back to the world..lol .. stayed in the same position.. just decided to put himself in a ‘ready-to-dive’ position.. so we were now looking at him side-on.. but they did get the images they needed in the end.. lol

I think I was just pleased that he was as active as he was in the first scan.. we saw him kick his legs out, almost with a vengence and watched as he waved his arms about.

We have a scan pic of him with his hand upto his chin.. and another of him defying gravity.. laying up high.. and facing down .. ‘a lil bit like a tortoise’ as one midwife had said..lol ..

..they said our lil wriggler musta been training for the olympics..lol ..which is a good thing.. he’s already picked up mummy’s sporty traits..lol :P

Just for an indication of how much growing he still has in store.. these were the following measurements:

Head Circumference: 167mm
Biparietal (Cranium) Diameter: 43mm
Abdominal Circumference: 150mm
Femur Length: 34mm

…we will be scanning the pics we got and posting them online for all to see asap :)
