Our group hit the phones for the first time, unofficially, yesterday.. but officially today.. we left the comfort of our ickle training puddle.. and were plopped into the Pond

I must admit, I’ve not really thought about it.. I kinda just closed my eyes really tight, flapped like mad as I made my way over..lol First call was an irate customer.. just what ya need to kick off the call-taking mood right? ..was all good tho.. the calming effect of my voice got the customer chuckling towards the end of the call.. *smirks* lol

The day went SO quick today.. I dun even think I took that many calls.. and most of which I did take were transfers.. I did have a nice call to top off the end of day tho.. “you’re the best person, by far, I’ve ever spoken to on the phone…. it’s beautiful” ..talk about compliments!! *blushes*

In the past month.. I’ve had 3 jobs.. Woolies which of course I’ve been with since last November.. but then I took on work selling showbags at Royal Adelaide Show.. and whilst all that was happening (mind you.. I had taken holidays from Woolies to do say).. I have interviews.. get a hearing test.. and before I know it.. I’m gonna be working at Telstra!

Unfortunately Woolies didn’t fair too well.. I gave them the minimum 1 week notice.. and as much as I enjoyed working with the people there.. Telstra was offering more than Woolies ever could..

I started my new job @ Telstra last Monday.. 4 weeks training at the moment.. but already loving it! .. Can’t wait to get out there and test my skills ... those learnt.. and those currently learning..

It’s been unbelievable.. we’ve had great trainers.. Friday was ‘Footy Friday’ and Casual Day.. so not only did i get to wear jeans.. but I also got some ridiculous footy paint on my face _and_ FREE.. yeah I said FREE! .. Vili’s Pie … nummy nummies!

I’ve seen more of my family in this past week than I have in a month.. I’m getting home at a reasonable hour.. so I get to play up a little with Callia before her bedtime.. which is something I missed terribly.. and it’s one less bus to work.. I have a car.. and I drive.. but being in a direct line out of the city.. catching thebus is more convenient, comparing to the likes of finding a park and then paying about $12 a day for it..

I just spent my first whole weekend off with the family.. and DP couldn’t be more grateful.. this is definitely working for us..

..so I’m a happy bunny!

My brain is still getting used to having to function @ that time… so much so.. by the time I have my morning tea break.. which would otherwise be brekkie.. a redbull and ciggie gives me head spins..lol

*watches Callia eat her cheesy pasta bake* …she’s loving it.. hehe

It’s all pretty nifty.. this training goes on top of my Service Cashier, Office Cashier and Supervisor duties.. my cv is gonna look plenty busy!

*gets distracted and goes watch Callia whilst she’s playin’ up in the bath*

…anyways as I was saying.. it’s been an interesting week.. and its looking to get more interesting as DP and I intend to give up the ciggies for good.. -wish us luck-

.. the one thing I do like about doing Systems ,is that I’m home before the sun goes down.. which gives me time to sort out Callia’s arvo/night routine =)

If you’re going to attempt to use the self serve checkout:

* be patient.. and listen to the prompts.. there is a visual aid which demonstrates exactly what needs to be done..

* there is always an attendant within our self serve area.. so if you have any questions, no matter how ‘dumb’ it may seem.. we’re more than willing to help..

* these checkouts are an alternative option.. don’t feel that they are going to turn all our registers into these.. lets face it.. a business is nothing without its customers.. and customer service is what ultimately brings a customer back.. look at it as another ‘express’ option.. or something fun and different to do.. spesh when ya got ya kids out with ya..

* we have not lost staff members over the installation of self serve.. we’ve in fact hired extra people.. as the self serve registers have been installed on top of what we previously had.. it hasnt taken anything away from us..

* be realistic.. these self serve registers weren’t intended for people to go through with trolley loads of shopping.. but by all means.. if that’s what ya want to do.. fair play to ya! .. but essentially.. as mentioned previously.. it’s another ‘express’ option.. dun have time to be waiting in line and only have a few items.. jump the queue and give yaself a confidence buzz..

We have had feedback of both extremes.. some people even claiming to no longer shop at our store simply due to the installation of self serve.. others believe its brilliant.. we’re not forcing people to embrace it.. but give it a go before making judgement.. ya never know.. ya might like it.. but if you dont.. then there’s always our manned registers

I guess the good thing with being offered the Service Supervisor is that I get the chance to use what I learned in the UK (seeing as it was my first official supervising post) ..but at the same time.. the work ethic here is very different to over there.. and it makes me wonder how I’d go about actually gaining the respect of the younger operators without having them always getting their own way…

..as for 3IC in Cash Office.. well anyone who knows me.. knows I’ve always been interested in Finance ‘n Accounting.. and this appears to be just the stepping stone I need to get somewhere with that.. I’ve also got the 3IC bit there.. with is another responsible ‘supervising’ kinda role.. so.. technically two roles in one..

 *ponders*

heh.. the answers practically sitting in front of me.. but we’re already short as it is on the front end and feel that I’ll be shifting the apple cart.. but maybe its time I did for once.. did summat for myself insteada doing things for everyone else..

 …ah well.. wont be long before there’s an update on this saga, I still have some questions to ask.. as per usual.. stay tuned

I started as a PPT (permanent part-time) Service Cashier.. aka glorified checkout chic *giggles*, but have since been promoted.. only 10 weeks since starting there!! ..I’ve been offered the opportunity to be trained up to be a Supervisor, of which I have accepted.. and have also been asked to work in the Cash Office.. of which, again, I have also accepted

I know things may get very busy for me.. but I figure, if anything, I’m going to learn from this.. for better or for worse, it’ll be an experience at the very least.. we shall see how it goes

*has just finished a 10-day stint.. and plans to spend the weekend doing nothing of great importance.. other than spend time with the family*
